General FAQ


I’m from out-of-town. How do I get to the conference site?
For directions to Towson University and the University Union, please vist our Directions to Towson University page.


I am a presenter. Is there a place for me to test my presentation?
Yes. We have reserved a room on the third level of the University Union as the Presenter Preparation Room. You will be directed to the room when you check in at the presenter desk.


What if I have problems with my presentation?
We hope your presentation goes smoothly. Just in case, our Concurrent Sessions Coordinator (Dr. Tom Mueller), along with our audio/visual technicians, will be available on Monday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Tuesday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. We have also assigned volunteers in each presentation room to handle lights, sound, temperature, and any other problems that may occur.


Is there a map of the conference area?
You can find maps of the conference area in the TUGIS 2008 Final Program. Registration, exhibits, the map gallery, and dining facilities are located on the second level. Plenary and Concurrent Session Rooms are located on the third level. Restrooms, stairs, and elevators are located on all levels.


Which events require tickets?
Your name badge serves as your entry to all events (including the Ice Breaker Social on Monday, March 16).


Where do I get event tickets?
Event tickets are included in your registration packet. Your tickets are based on the days for which you registered.


When will Door Prizes be awarded, and must I be present to win?
We will award Door Prizes at the Ice Breaker Social on Monday, March 16, during the Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, March 17, and after the last session on Tuesday (5:00 - 5:10 pm). You must be present to win a door prize or one of the laptops.


I may need a few supplies. Will the University Bookstore be open during the Conference?
Yes. The Bookstore is located on the first floor of the University Union. We will post the store hours in the final program.


Map Design Competition FAQ


Is there a map design competition?
Yes! We will display all maps entered in the Map Design Competition in the foyer of the second level of the University Union (adjacent to the registration area). Conference attendees will vote for the top two Professional and Student submissions. Ballots are included in your conference packet. Ballots will be counted right after lunch on Tuesday, March 17. Winners will be announced at the Ice Cream Social


How do I enter the Map Design Competition?
You’ll find everything you need to know on the Map Design Competition page.


How do I vote?
You will find a ballot in the event ticket envelope included in your registration packet.


Where is the Map Design Competition ballot-box?
The Map Design Competition ballot-box will be located in the map gallery.


When will you announce the winners of the map competition?
Map Design Competition winners will be announced during the Afternoon Coffee Break on Tuesday, March 17.


Job Mart FAQ


I’m looking for a job in the GIS field. Is there a place I can post my resume so that others can see it?
Yes. We have a Job Mart booth located in the lobby on the third level of the University Union. You may post copies of your resume in a special notebook available to all conference attendees.


I have an open GIS position. Is there a place I can post my job opening so that others can see it?
Yes. You may post copies of your position description in a special notebook available to all conference attendees at the Job Mart booth.


Can I schedule interviews for an open GIS position at TUgis 2009?
Yes. Please contact Dr. Kang Shou Lu at 410-704-3691 or kshoulu@towson.edu to establish your interview schedule at TUgis 2008.
